Think activism in Mendocino started with the hippies in the '60s? Think again! Mendocino boasts a long history of political and social activism, and the Kelley House Museum’s latest exhibit showcases the powerful art that has demanded change across the eras. Marvel at the artistry behind historic posters for women’s suffrage, the Whale War boycott, and the Peace Fair. Have a laugh at the anti-war napkin art of the ’60s or feel the raw weight of the hand-drawn signs from today’s protest marches. This exhibit also features striking pieces from contemporary local creators, such as the story of Coyote depicted in Jewelina Acosta’s wall-sized painting. We are also proud to display incredible loaned works from Eric Wilder, Winsor Kinkade, Kiera Poehlmann, David Bacon, Lillian Galedo, Gerri Sorkin, John Hewitt, and more.

This exhibit was co-curated by Averee McNear, Kelley House Museum Curator, and Dav Bell, Mendocino Art Center Executive Director. Special thanks to Robert Dominy and Indivisible for documenting local protest movements, and to Carol Dominy for research assistance.

For a heartfelt comedy of what constitutes real value in life, Bakersfield Mist runs at Willits Community Theatre September 18 through October 4. In the play by Stephen Sachs, a hard-tongued trailer woman swears a thrift store painting she bought is a Jackson Pollock worth millions. She only has to convince an effete and opinionated art expert. Shows are Thursday, Friday, and Saturday at 7:00pm, Sunday Matinees at 2:00pm. Tickets are $25, available at www.wctperformingartscenter.org, or the door. Due to adult language and sexual content, the show is not appropriate for patrons under 17 unless accompanied by an adult.

Welcome to the 2026 Farmers Market Reading season! The Ukiah Branch Library invites families and folks of all ages to visit our reading station at the Ukiah Farmers Market every Saturday, May through October. This longstanding, volunteer-run program provides an hour of age-appropriate read-alouds to market goers from 10 – 11 a.m., weather permitting. We hope to see you there.

Please note that rain and/or temperatures exceeding 95 degrees Fahrenheit will cancel Saturday’s Farmers Market Reading Time. Celebrate the beauty of the season at EarthSpoke Farms’ weekly U-Pick Flowers event, held every Saturday through August and September. Guests are invited to stroll through the farm’s abundant flower fields – bursting with vibrant dahlias, snapdragons, zinnias and other beautiful blossoms – and harvest their own bouquets. Whether you’re crafting an arrangement for your home, a gift, or a special celebration, you’ll be surrounded by fresh blooms grown regeneratively in beautiful Mendocino. Flower snips, mason jars with fresh water, and guidance are provided, making this a relaxed, family-friendly way to enjoy Mendocino’s coastal charm and take home a little piece of it.

New Ballet Classes for teens and adults starting in August.

Noyo Dance Company will now offer a variety ballet classes every Saturday for all levels.

Absolute beginner classes offered from 10-11am and 12:30-1:30pm. This class is for anyone who wants to try ballet for the first time or get back into it. The focus is on gaining strength, mobility, and coordination and applying it to the basic foundations of ballet. All ability levels are encouraged, and everyone gets to participate at their own pace. Suggested donation $15.

All levels ballet class from 11am-12:30pm is a whole hour and a half class that challenges the mind and body through rigorous barre and center exercises. Whether your are a newer or experienced dancer, there is so much to learn and benefit from this class. Suggested donation $20.

Everyone is welcome! No one turned away for lack of funds! Come dance and feel good :)

Drop-in art lesson with Suzi Long! Come earn your CREATIVE LICENSE and paint the Noyo Bridge. No experience necessary! Learn a few tricks, enjoy the bridge view and have a great 2 hours in a beautiful new gallery!
