MCPB Board of Directors 2026 Elections
Interested in Running for a Seat on the Board?
Have you considered supporting your community radio station by serving on its Board of Directors? Philanthropy comes in many forms—one of them is to give the gift of time. Here is an opportunity to do just that.
In March 2026, KZYX will hold elections for four positions on the Mendocino County Public Broadcasting Board of Directors.
The MCPB Board of Directors is ultimately responsible for the current and future well-being of KZYX. This responsibility includes many different areas. Currently, the board is playing a major role in fundraising for the new station broadcast facility in Ukiah. Our listening community has shown tremendous support for our beloved radio station, and the board looks forward to continuing this outreach and to growing our community of support for the future. The board will also be developing a strategic vision and plan to guide us into the future. Consider playing a key role in these exiting and essential next steps for KZYX.
Or do your interests run more along the lines of management oversight, policies and procedures? The Board oversees its General Manager/Operations Director, sets policies related to financial management, personnel, and programming, and augments the work of staff in other areas such as public information.
The board generally meets once a month, currently mostly on Zoom, plus one or two special meetings per year. Its Finance, Building Fund and Development, and Executive Committees generally hold monthly meetings, and the Personnel Committee meets as needed. Board members must be KZYX members in good standing. They are expected to serve on at least one board committee and to contribute as donors and volunteers to the extent they are able. The time commitment varies depending on these forms of engagement, ranging from 5 to 20 or more hours a month. Board terms are for four years, and members may serve two consecutive terms.
The board positions that are open in the upcoming elections represent Supervisorial Districts 2, 3, 4, and 5. These positions are currently held by board members Baird, Strock, Dickson, and Wiederholdt, respectively. Candidates who would like to run for these positions need to live in one of these districts, be members in good standing and meet other candidate requirements (see below).
Applications to run for a board seat must be submitted by January 30, 2026. Candidates will be announced in early February, with a live candidate event on KZYX in late February. Voting takes place through the month of March. Following a board orientation, the new Board will convene and elect officers on May 26.
All members in good standing by January 15, 2026 may vote on all seats, regardless of where they live.
