A Woman’s Place Was Everywhere:How Working Women Shaped MendocinoExhibit Runs October 2, 2025– March 29, 2026Opening Reception Honoring Local Businesswomen: Saturday, October 11, 4pm – 5:30pmWhile men wielded the axes that built the town of Mendocino, women built the community that made it last. Look beyond the big trees and lumber mills to discover the vibrant world of “women’s work.” Through their own diaries, photos, and oral histories, this exhibit tells the lesser-known stories of entrepreneurs, nurses, artists, teachers, madams, and philanthropists who laid the foundation for the Mendocino we know today. Discover how their creativity, resilience, and hard work—both paid and unpaid—shaped the legacy of the Mendocino Coast in ways history books often overlook. Nominate your own local heroine, past or present during your visit. Bring a photo if you have one.Museum Hours:October – December: Thurs – Mon, 11am – 3pmJanuary – March: Fri – Sun, 11am – 3pm

Fresh off their tour to Portugal and Northern Ireland, San Francisco based band, Dirty Cello will present their exciting blend of blues, rock and Americana that has been described by Oakland Magazine as, “...funky, carnival, romantic, sexy, tangled, electric, fiercely rhythmic, and textured, and only occasionally classical” at Willits Community Theatre on Nov 8.
Band leader and cellist Rebecca Roudman is also a member of classical orchestras, but with the Dirty Cello band she lets her hair down and uses her classical training to push the cello to its limits - more Jimi Hendrix than Yo -Yo Ma.
Rebecca describes the Dirty Cello show as, “We play what folks want to hear, from the Devil Went Down to Georgia to Led Zeppelin, we go on stage with a huge collection of songs and then just have a ton of fun - we don’t take ourselves too seriously, and we just want the audience to have a good time too.”
This band of road warriors has played their unique blend of music all over the world with tours from Italy to the Middle East and everywhere in between.
Roudman reports that Dirty Cello’s shows are all about high energy and fun. The band is known for taking everything a bit uptempo, running into the crowd, and prompting classic singalongs.
Dirty Cello – a high-energy blues, blue grass and rock duo with a unique spin – comes to Willits Community Theatre on Saturday, November 8 at 7pm. Led by vivacious crossover cellist Rebecca Roudman, Dirty Cello is cello like you have never heard before. Roudman is joined by guitarist Jason Eckl in offering down home sounds with virtuosic stompin’, heart-thumping energy. Tickets are $20 and available online at www.wctperformingartscenter.org or at the door until sold out.
Hailing from Humboldt County, The Cowtown Sound is a five piece band that plays a unique style of movement music they call "ska-boogie," led by singer/songwriter/drummer Daniel Nickerson. The group features an unusual instrumentation that includes cello and singing saw, and has a cast of earthy puppet characters that appear during performances. A set of opening tunes will be provided by radical songster Julio Perdido.
