Mendocino Coast Jazz Society Jam Sessions Monday evenings, at the “Tall Guy Brewery” in Fort Bragg. The new brewery / brew pub is located on Franklin Street, across from City Hall in the old Sears Bld.
The proceedings begin at 5:00, with a dance lesson with Al, Mary, Sunshine and Glenn, for those so inclined.At 6:00 we start the live music, and play till 9:00. The brew pub has beer, wine and bar bites. All ages are welcome, and admission will be free.
The Jazz Society will make sure we have a swingin’ rhythm section, and we will be collecting donations to defray the cost.

Check out local artist and Redwood Coast Senior Center participant Ann Erickson's artwork featured in the Hallway Gallery at 490 N Harold St. in Fort Bragg. Her work is for sale and will be on display through June, as a benefit for the Senior Center. She works in watercolor, acrylic, and oil and has a lovely selection of landscapes on display. Focusing on the 40-plus-year history of the Krenov School of Fine Woodworking in Fort Bragg, this exhibit shares the story of how a remarkable institution came to be. The philosophy and practice that made James Krenov a master woodworker and teacher is explored, along with examples of his own work and fine furniture made by instructors and graduates of the program.
We are pleased to be hosting an exhibition of work by Stan Miklose, who was the owner of Down Home Health Foods. On display will be original paintings that have been described as 'abstractions under a veil of constructionism reflecting his unique view of the world'. Limited edition prints of the originals will be available at the gallery. Stan's paintings will be on display for the entire month of May with a reception on the 18th during Second Saturday's Art Walk in Mendocino from 4-7pm. About the class: In this 15-week course we’ll use readings, craft lectures, and in-class writing exercises to build our writer’s toolbox. We'll also discuss our work in an encouraging and supportive environment. Topics we’ll cover in detail over the semester: ~ How to Establish a Writing Practice~The Elements of a Good Story –This section comprises the bulk of the class lectures, as we’ll go into detail about the elements of narrative, i.e. plot, character, setting, voice, subtext, etc. ~How to Refine & Revise ~How to Get PublishedAlthough this is a non-credit class, the class work will be substantial and designed for aspiring writers of all levels who want to hone their chops. Adults of all ages are welcome.
About the teacher Melinda Misuraca:I’m a writer, editor and teacher who has published poetry, fiction, reportage, memoir, travel writing, reviews, profiles, science-based articles, and longform essays. I also like to cook, make my own clothes, grow plants, collect old photographs, travel and read books (remember those?) I’ve spent the past several years living half-time in Portugal, and currently live in Healdsburg in a leafy little hideout of sorts.
