Hey there: Are you a wanna- be gardener, but have no yard, or place to cultivate a garden/vegi garden ,or exercise that passion? Well look no further, then to our very own Community Garden here in" Happy Willits," located next to the Recreation Grove; (adjacent to the Social Service Dept.) A Non Profit Project. With once a year fee (like renting a plot) grow whatever you want, but must commit for a year, no abandoning it. Serious gardeners welcomed. There's limited spaces-sign ups begin in March. "The Art of Wonder" highlights work by 15 Mendocino County artists that create a sense of wonder, emanating from the subject matter, the style, or both. Ranging through various mediums and featuring a vast catalogue of creatures, "The Art of Wonder" playfully and reverently pushes the boundaries of their artwork.
In September Partners Gallery presents a retrospective of work by Joan Burleigh. Burleigh has been living and making art on the Mendocino coast for more than 50 years. She has worked mainly with acrylic on paper. She exhibited with Partners Gallery for a number of years. Now, the gallery is honoring her with a retrospective show of selected works from her lengthy career. Of her work she says: “I paint to reach the place within me that is free of controls and boundaries; where, on a fortunate day, my spirit can soar!”
The show opens September 11 and continues through October 6.There is a Second Saturday Meet the Artist September 13, 5-7pm.

At Highlight Gallery in Mendocino we are pleased to host a show entitled 'Monarama' by local artist, Richard Weiss. Richard has taken Mona Lisa and put her in interesting situations, wardrobes and with family and friends! Some of his images are painted kinetic linocuts and others were created in watercolor pencil or acrylics. This show is definitely worth a viewing and Richard will be in the gallery for a meet and greet on September 13th from 4 to 7pm during Mendocino's Second Saturday Art Walk event so please come by and chat with him about his riffs on Mona! The show will run from September 5th through October 30th, six days a week (gallery closed Thursdays) from 11am to 4pm. Hope to see you soon!

Celebrate Nuestra Alianza
The galleries at Willits Center for the Arts will feature a seasonal exhibit by the community at Nuestra Aliaza, a beloved local Willits nonprofit, in the month of October. Celebrate Nuestra Alianza opens on Saturday October 4 from 6 to 8pm. Nuestra Alianza members young and old will create seasonal altars, papel picado flags, giant marigolds, and other Mexican arts and crafts which traditionally acompany fall festivities. The opening will feature seasonal foods and beverages and a colorful variety of Day of the Dead altars and autumn décor honoring ancestors and celebrating family. Join us at Willits Center for the Arts, at 71 East Commercial Street, as we welcome the colorful and heartfelt offerings of Nuestra Alianza. The exhibit will remain up until Sunday, October 26 with WCA galleries open each Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from 11am to 5pm.

Las galerías del Centro de Artes Willits presentarán una exposición de temporada de la comunidad de Nuestra Alianza, una querida organización local sin fines de lucro de Willits, durante el mes de octubre. Celebramos Nuestra Alianza abre sus puertas el sábado 4 de octubre de 6 a 8 pm. Miembros de Nuestra Alianza, jóvenes y mayores, crearán altares de temporada, banderas de papel picado, cempasúchiles gigantes y otras artesanías mexicanas que tradicionalmente acompañan las festividades de otoño. La inauguración incluirá comidas y bebidas de temporada, y una bella variedad de altares y decoración del Día de Muertos, en honor a los antepasados y celebrando a la familia. Acompáñenos en el Centro de Artes Willits, ubicado en 71 East Commercial Street en Willits, para dar la bienvenida a las coloridas y emotivas propuestas de Nuestra Alianza. La exposición permanecerá abierta hasta el domingo 26 de octubre, y las galerías del Centro de Artes Willits estarán abiertas todos los viernes, sábados y domingos de las 11am a las 5pm.
This 8-week group provides an opportunity to learn the symptoms of grief, as well as to recognize the individual nature of its expression and duration. With a fuller understanding of the grief process and effective ways to cope, we can find meaning and move forward. This is a closed group with a maximum of 8 participants.
