Fri. July 31 09:30 - 91.5 tramsmitter back up, but the STL signal is dropping packets or not connecting. Our tower engiineer is going to go onsite to troubleshoot.

Fri., July 31 - 09:00 - 91.5 transmitter is down. Power may be out at Laughlin Peak and the backup generator did not kick on. CalFire maintains the site. Power should come back on at some point.

Wed., June 24 UPDATE - The Philo STL transmitter was up for a while and is unstable. We are in the process of aquiring a loaner to replace it while ours is repaired.

Tues., June 23 UPDATE - At about 13:30 the STL transmitter failed again. We have sourced a replacement and it will be on-site tomorrow.

Mon, June 22 UPDATE 20:00 - Broadcast programming back on the air. The Philo STL tramsmitter came back up after clearing faults. Looking into why the STL tramsmitter on Philo went into standby mode. Plan of action being developed to recap a spare inoperative STL transmitter aquired and put it back into service.

Mon. Jun 22 - UPDATE 16:30 - It appears that the STL transmitter from Philo connecting to the Cold Springs transmitter, or the STL receiver at Cold Springs is down. Possible power supply failure on one of the units. We are investigating. This could be a prolonged outage as we have to get the part to replace the STL power supply. Our web stream is up and working.

Mon Jun 22, 14:30 - All three frequencies (91.5, 90.7, 88.1) are down. We are investigating the problem. Our web-stream is operational.

Update - Wed. Jan 21 - Resolved - There were wires dangling in front of the STL transmitter dish on Cold Springs which were removed, as well as bit errors showing up from the STL trasmitter to Laughlin Peak. That STL transmitter was pulled and replaced with our spare. It looks like the aging of the equipment's components are starting to affect it's overall performance. The "efficiency" (performance, losses) of capacitors and resistors matters significantly in electronics, affecting power loss (heat), speed, accuracy, and circuit function, with capacitors needing low internal resistance (high Q-factor) for energy storage and resistors impacting current flow and timing. We are going to take the STL transmitter we pulled from service and replace the majority of these components, and hopefully see an improvement in performance. This equipment is no longer manufactured and buying used units which all have high hours (these are on 24/7), is proving to have it's own set of issues.

Tues., Jan 20 - Late last week, 91.5 began experiencing audio drop outs due to the STL link from Cold Springs Mountain in Philo. Our Tower Engineer will be troubleshooting the problem today.

Update - Resolved - Wed. Jan 14 - 11am - NetLink101 who supplies us with the static IP address for the TieLines is doing some emergency service on their mountain top equipment. There may be some program interruptions.

Update - Thur. Jan 8 - 13:30 - Our Tower Engineer has diagnosed the issue. The power went out at the site, and when power came back on, the power supply in the STL receiver (Studio Transmitter Link) failed. Power supply failure under these circumstances is somewhat common in old equipment. The power supply works, and then when power is recycled, it fails. The unit has been pulled and will be repaired, and then replaced in the AM of January 9th.

Wed. Jan 7 - 14:30 - Power outage at Cold Springs CalFire generator did not kick in. This also affects the STL (Studio Transmitter Link) to Laughlin Peak and so 91.5 is currently silent.

Fri. Dec 12 - Update 16:30 - RESOLVED The transmission line temporary fix has failed and our tower engineer crew will be at the site Sunday (12/14/25) to go up the tower and troubleshoot.
12:45pm 91.5 went off-air. PG&E did notify today of a maintanance outage until 6pm and it seems that the transmission line failed on powerup. We are investigating.

Wed., Oct 6 - A backup loaner 88.1 Transmitter has been installed as the main transmitter is being repaired. 88.1 is currently at 100% power.

Thur., Sept 29, 3pm - The 88.1 signal is currently down. Andre went to the site to troubleshoot the signal being down, and in consultation with the Tower Engineer determined that the transmitter has failed. The transmitter was pulled from the site and will be repaired ASAP. We are working to get a temporary loaner on-site. This is the second time the Ft Bragg transmitter has failed this year and is indicitive of the defered maintanance that has happened over the years. The equipment and site enclosure are original equipment from when the site was setup. We are looking at a site overhaul.

Thur, Sept 18, 11:00am - UPDATE - Transmission line from transmitter to antenna needs replacement, which will nessitate another tower climb or bucket truck.

Tower Engineer is currently on-site and going up the tower to troubleshoot the antenna issue. This will nessitate powering down the 91.5 transmitter while diagnostic work is going on. The transmitter will be powered back up to it's current 10% of full power after the trouble-shooting work is done. Then a plan will be set to get whatever parts are needed and the schedule a date and time to replace them.

Sun Sept 14 - 91.5 Transmitter cycling on and off. Something is causing the transmitter to power cycle. Tower engineer will conduct site visit ASAP.

UPDATE & ONGOING - Tower Engineer went to the site and there is a fault with the antenna. The transmitter was placed in low power mode to prevent the power recycling, but it is only operating at 10% output. Next steps are to get up on the tower to troubleshoot the antenna itself, and see if it is the bullet burned out, or a break in the line. This will be done in the next week or so, ASAP

Resolved - Sat. Sept 13 - Jukebox not recording content - Troubleshooting on our end, may have to speak with vendor tech support Monday.

Resolved - Thur July 31 - Online Steam is down. Everything on the Philo studio side is working correctly. Checking with MCN and NPR support for cause.

Resolved - Mon July 28 -Ft. Bragg 88.1 Transmitter exciter down. Picking up alternate station. Going to transmitter site Tues., July 29 AM to troubleshoot and repair.

Resolved - Wed July 23 - The NPR Satallite feed went down for approximately 8 minutes from 8:34am to 8:42am.

Resolved - 91.5 Micro Dropouts - UPDATE 7/17/25 - STL amplifiers are being installed, the reciever portion was installed at Laughlin Peak and the transmitter STL amplifier is scheduled to be installed at the Cold Springs transmitter site. UPDATE - Installed STL Receiver installed at Laughlin Peak

We are aware of the micro dropouts on the 91.5 signal. This is due to the STL (Studio Transmitter Link) microwave signal that goes out from the Cold Springs transmitter site and received about 30+ miles away at the Laughlin Peak transmitter site. STL strength readings have been taken and are very low, and the digital signal is occasionally too weak for error correction to accommodate. it is most likely an alignment issue between the microwave dishes on Laughlin Peak and Cold Springs. It's also possible that it could be co-channel interference or local signal interference at Cold Springs or at Laughlin Peak that is affecting the microwave signal. This is not an issue in the broadcast studios. Thank you for your patience and understanding while we work on this with our Tower Engineer.
