Local tribal leaders gathered in Coyote Valley Thursday to learn about the implementation of the Feather Alert, a new notification system for missing Indigenous people. It’s similar to the Amber Alert for missing children. Also known as AB 1314, it was authored by Assemblymember James Ramos. The state’s first and only Native American legislator, he’s taken a deep interest in public safety on tribal lands. He joined tribal leadership and law enforcement from Mendocino and Humboldt Counties last week for a roundtable discussion and cultural presentations.
