All are invited to an Obon Festival in Mendocino Rotary Park on Saturday August 12 from 12 to 4.
The Mendocino Sister City Association invites everyone to honor and remember deceased relatives with festivities and the hope spirits will return to share the day.
Chocin paper lanterns will be hung there to guide spirits and bon odori dances will be performed. Traditional Japanese crafts of flower arranging, origami, gift wrapping, block printing and calligraphy will be offered for adults and children alike. Japanese foods will also be available for purchase.
Taiko drumming, Shamisen and Shakuhachi music will be performed and there will be an Aikido demonstration. Join the community in remembering those who have gone before us for a day of all things Japanese.
