The 61st Annual “Art in the Redwoods” returns August 18-21, 2022. This 4-day festival brings wonderful new art, along with food, music and family fun to the Mendonoma Coast. Visitors to the arts center will discover that there is truly something for everyone. Advance tickets are required, and those tickets can be purchased, online now at EventBrite.com, and beginning Saturday, August 13, at the new Dolphin Gallery in the Sea Cliff center in downtown Gualala.

The festival begins on Thursday, August 18 with the Boxed Hat Dinner. Tickets are $150 (which includes a letter acknowledgement of a $100 donation). Tickets for Friday’s Champagne preview are $25, and morning and afternoon advance general admission tickets for Saturday and Sunday’s festival days are $10 each.
For months now, artists have been encouraged to create new art to fill the exhibit space at Gualala Arts, and more than $5000 in prize money will be awarded. It is expected that between 250 and 300 new works will be on display during Art in the Redwoods. As in years past, the art will include paintings and watercolors, prints & graphics, sculpture, photography, digital art, pastels & drawings, woodworking, glass, jewelry, clay & mosaic, fibers, textiles, quilts, collage and so much more. If you can imagine a type of art, you can be certain almost every variation will be on display, much of it available for purchase.

All of the art on display will be competing for awards, determined by three highly qualified artists and veteran art judges. Amber Robles-Gordon, is a multimedia visual artist, whose creations are visual representations of her hybridism: a fusion of her gender, ethnicity, cultural, and social experiences. Sarah Beth Hsieh is an artist from Nashville, Tennessee, now living in Cambridge, England. She primarily paints buildings and landscapes, and loves to capture the essence of a place through wonky lines and bold colors. Teresa VanHatten-Granath is an artist, sewist and eco-activist. Her photography and sculptural photographic books have been shown in exhibitions and galleries both nationally and internationally.

Once again, members of the Pacific Piecemakers Quilt Guild have created a newly-designed, original quilt to be raffled off at Art in the Redwoods. This year’s quilt, “The Colors of My World”, measures approximately 96” x 88”. Raffle tickets are available now and will continue to be available during Art in the Redwoods.
Vendor booths, displaying and selling jewelry, art and crafts will be open for those hoping to find unique and delightful gift ideas from area artisans. And there will be entertainment during both of the festival days including The Ernest Bloch Bell Ringers ringing in Art in the Redwoods on both Saturday and Sunday. Eric Wilder will share Native American stories and Pomo History for children and adults alike. The Irish Traditional Music Ensemble, a new regular workshop group, will delight adults and children. Justine Rosenthal will give visitors an insight into her Tai Chi workshops, and Sue Bohlin will bring the Coastal Singers to the JAMI Amphitheater. Closing out the festival is BAKU, an improvisational ensemble of musicians dedicated to what they describe as “the art of spontaneous composition.
