August 26, 2025 - Local non-profit Plowshares is calling on the community to help fight hunger by participating in a matching donation challenge throughout the month of August. The T.R. Eriksen Foundation has pledged to match every dollar donated, up to $25,000, effectively doubling the impact of each contribution.

The goal is to raise a total of $50,000 to support the organization's operating budget and its mission "that no one in our community go hungry."

A Generous Boost from a Local Foundation

The challenge was made possible by a grant from the T.R. Eriksen Foundation, established by local business owner Ted Eriksen to give back to his community. The funds will directly support Plowshares' essential services, which include its Community Dining Room, Senior Meals-on-Wheels, and Homeless Services programs.

"We are excited to announce that we received a matching donation challenge from the T.R. Eriksen Foundation for $25,000,” the organization stated. “We are grateful to the Foundation for this support, and we hope our community will show their appreciation as well."

In the 2024-2025 fiscal year, Plowshares provided over 102,000 free hot meals and other vital services to dining room guests and home-bound seniors. The funds raised will help ensure these crucial programs continue to serve those in need.

How You Can Help

Plowshares has successfully met similar challenges in the past, often within a single month, and hopes the community's generosity will make this year's campaign just as successful.

To have your donation doubled, you can contribute in several ways:

Online: Make a secure donation at www.plowsharesfeeds.org/donations.

By Mail: Send a check, cash, or credit card coupon to Plowshares, PO Box 475, Ukiah, CA 95482.

By Phone: Call the Plowshares office at (707) 462-8582.

Every dollar contributed in August will be matched, bringing in a needed $50,000 to help feed the community.
