Two candidates are vying for the California Assembly District Two seat currently held by Jim Wood. The district stretches from Santa Rosa to Crescent City and includes Del Norte, Humboldt, Mendocino, Trinity, and Sonoma counties.
Republican Mike Greer from Crescent City and Democrat Chris Rogers from Santa Rosa are both seasoned public servants. Greer, a former teacher and city council member, has served in various education roles, including president of the Paradise Unified School District board during the Camp Fire. Greer, who began his career in Gridley, Calif., describes himself as a Republican who can work across the aisle. He emphasizes the need for change in California’s supermajority legislature.
“Our costs have gone up...insurance, energy, groceries, everything. We’ve been given promises, but nothing has changed,” Greer said. “One size does not fit all.”
Rogers, a current Santa Rosa City Council member, brings experience as a regional leader on issues like climate change, transportation, and housing. He has also served on boards related to green energy and environmental policy. Rogers says his local leadership background qualifies him to address the district’s unique challenges.
“I’ve not just helped rebuild our community through fires, floods, and earthquakes but have also worked on renewable energy legislation in multiple states,” Rogers said. He advocates for increased accountability in energy utilities, supporting municipal utilities and community choice aggregators to lower costs.
