What's happening in the North Pacific Ocean?

Aug 10, 2017

In the last three years, we've had El Niño, "The Blob," and when they merged, “El Blobiño!”  Those conditions led to the Wreck of the Cassin's Auklet, the Domoic Acid outbreak that wiped out the Dungeness Crab season, the collapse of the Kelp forests, and more.  On The Ecology Hour, we talk with Dr. William Sydeman of The Farallon Institute and get an update on what has happened and what we can expect going forward.

This show aired on Tuesday August 8, and is available for streaming or download from the KZYX Jukebox.

Mendocino Works, a KZYX public affairs program that explores the startup and nurture of sustainable local enterprises, looks in this episode at a seemingly 21st century topic that surely applies to startups and ongoing businesses alike: The use of data and technology to build customer loyalty and engagement and to drive sales and services.

Build it or fix it? When does it make more sense to buy an ongoing business that's struggling, rather than starting a new business from scratch?

Mendocino Works posed this question and many others to Taylor Pedersen, a San Francisco restaurateur who with his partner Chris Struett took over Ukiah brewpub Ritual in February. Pedersen describes how he and Struett are re-inventing the business to their own vision under its original name, Ukiah Brewing Company.
