October 7, 2019 — The children’s room at the Ukiah library was packed on Friday night, as former Ukiah branch children’s librarian Jannah Minnix returned with six boxes of the anthology she edited. “Awakening to Wildfire: Stories of the Mendocino Lake Complex Fire” is a vital document of the community’s stories about surviving wildfires, told in poetry and prose, interviews and articles, photographs, and other visual arts media. I sat down with Minnix and Ree Slocum, one of the interviewers, after a heartfelt reading by some of the 48 contributors.
