Interview with Chris Calder on Hospital Affiliation

Signboard outside Adventist Health Ukiah Valley hospital.

September 9, 2019 — Voters in the Mendocino Coast Healthcare District are likely to decide in March on whether or not the coast hospital should affiliate with Adventist Health, which runs the two inland hospitals, in Willits and Ukiah. Chris Calder is the editor of the Fort Bragg Advocate News and the Mendocino Beacon. He’s also a reporter who’s been covering the Mendocino Coast District Hospital. In this interview, he shares a little history about the district, what affiliation means, and what’s at stake.

There are many opportunities for the public to participate in the process, which has not yet resulted in a fully fleshed-out proposal. If you’d like to weigh in, the Fort Bragg Advocate News and Mendocino Beacon has created a survey and is committed to sharing your thoughts on affiliation with Mendocino Coast Healthcare District directors and Adventist Health executives. You can fill out the survey here.

And you can check out the Mendocino Coast District Hospital’s Board of Directors’ schedule of meetings and updated documents at their website, here.
