Friday December 11 Paul McCandless on North Bay Beat 8pm

Paul McCandless

"50 Years in Music: Paul McCandless and Oregon Special on North Bay Beat"

You’re invited to tune in to KZYX Friday, December 11th from 8 to 10 pm for a very special edition of North Bay Beat with John and Catherine. In October 2020, former band mates John Huxsol and Ukiah singer Paula Samonte interviewed their friend Grammy-winning oboist and world acclaimed jazz instrumentalist Paul McCandless. McCandless reminisced about his 50 years of music with Oregon, the group he co-founded in 1970, which created a new genre of jazz never before heard. The in-depth session ranges over McCandless’ individual career which has taken him around the world for almost 5 decades of performing with musicians such as Pat Metheny, Jaco Pastorius, Lyle Mays, Art Lande, Carla Bley, Mark Isham, Wynton Marsalis, Gary Burton, Al Jarreau, Bela Fleck and many more.

McCandless is a virtuoso of the reed instruments, playing oboe, English horn, bass clarinet, soprano and sopranino saxophones, plus a variety of folk flutes and penny whistles. He currently resides in Sonoma County, and formerly lived in Mendocino County, where he performed with local musicians such as the Will Siegel Band when his touring schedule allowed.
