Planning Committee Meeting 4-11-19

Minutes of the April 11, 2019 Planning Committee meeting

Meeting called to order by Co-chair David Hulse-Stephens

In attendance: committee members Stuart Campbell, Jerry Karp, Ed Keller, David Hulse-Stephens, and guests Da Grand Pooba, and Kathy Rippey

Approval of the agenda

Discussion items:

30thAnniversary celebration

Pooba updated us on the planning for the event.  He has secured the Real Sarahs, Roy Rogers and the Delta Kings, and the Tony Saunders band. He has also lined up a hip hop band headed up by Ernesto (I’ve forgotten the name of the band). He has secured the Little Lake Grange as the venue. Some deposits are due for the bands and for the Grange.

Pooba has also talked with Nuestra Allianza to possibly provide the childcare during the event. Food service, security, lights and sound are lined up.

He has also been in contact with Flow Canna about sponsoring an event. Research needs to be done on KZYX’s ability to receive a donation from a cannabis-related organization (Federal regulations).

Actions needed:

Talk with Trading Time—Jerry

More contact with Alma Latina—Jerry

Contact Tom and Steve about $600 deposit for the Grange—David

Pursue the question how we can give bands credit for in-kind donation

Discuss Flow Canna donation/support at next board meeting

Jerry Karp brought up the Jazz night at the Sequoia Room and that it was to be promoted as part of the 30thAnniversary year.

Action needed:

Coordination of 30thanniversary events through the year.

Guest Kathy Rippey

Kathy offered to research grant possibilities for the station, and she asked what specific projects the station might need grant money for. The committee came up with this list:

Capital campaign

Local news expansion

A Native American special series

Mutual programs with the college

Equipment

Grants to pay for staffing

Support for improving our efforts related to emergency services

She said that she would like to be compensated for her time. We told her we were open to it and would want to discuss it further.

Strategic planning

David announced that we did not receive the grant for strategic planning. Our intention is to take the work that Len Tischler has done and continue it from there as an in-house project.

Next meeting:  May 1, 3:30 p.m. at CASA
