October 8, 2020 — Of the 1,025 positive test results in the county as of yesterday, 637 are listed as Hispanic or Latino. Another 127 are of an unreported ethnicity. It’s hard to say how many of those are monolingual Spanish speakers, but now a local doctor is making the rounds of vineyards and cannabis farms in Anderson Valley, offering covid prevention outreach in Spanish. Leah Collins was born and raised in the valley, left home for medical school, and came back just in time for the pandemic. She started at the Anderson Valley Health Center back in May, working as a health coach.
The Anderson Valley Health Center offers surveillance testing at the high school at 9am on Thursdays, including today. Next Wednesday, October 14, there will also be testing from 4-5:30 in the afternoon, which Collins hopes will reach more working people.
