"Social Distancing Doesn't Have to be Lonely"

March 19, 2020 — Workers at the Humane Society of Inland Mendocino County, located in Redwood Valley, were working hard on Wednesday afternoon to get as many animals as possible into foster care or permanent homes so they could shelter in place — somewhere other than the shelter.

“Social distancing doesn’t have to be lonely,” said dog kennel manager Becca Edwards, encouraging people who “can’t foster in real life” to take care of a homeless animal while they can’t go to work. “I’m always happier with dogs next to me,” she added by way of personal testimonial.

Manager Monica Carnahan watched indulgently as a white cat named Trouble shredded furniture in the “catio,” an outdoor enclosure connected to the indoor cattery. She said the shelter will be operating on a very  limited basis, but that adoptions and foster care can still be arranged by appointment. “We’re still here,” she concluded.
