June 18, 2019 — Between climate change and the housing crisis, there’s been a lot of interest in building homes that have a minimal impact on the environment. Some of these building techniques, like straw bale houses, include revitalized traditional practices.
The California Straw Building Association, a non-profit educational organization, just came out with an illustrated guide for designing and constructing buildings made of straw and natural plaster. In this interview, we’ll hear from Tracy Theriot, a plasterer and natural builder who will be one of the people delivering presentations from the book in the coming days.
She and architect Bob Thies will lead a discussion at the Mendocino Book Company in Ukiah this week at 2pm. Theriot will also co-deliver a talk at this week’s meeting of the Western Hills Fire Safe Council.
