April 17, 2019 — The Army Corp of Engineers is updating the master plan for the recreational aspects of Lake Mendocino, a process that is supposed to take place every five years. The public comment period for the document is open until May 8.
Because the revising process started before the PG&E bankruptcy and the uncertainty about Scott Dam, the master plan does not address water supply. It is also not based on the assumption that Coyote Valley Dam will be raised to increase water storage capacity in the lake.
Major recommendations include building a new parking lot at the south boat ramp, demolishing the remaining Winery Point buildings, building a marina and concession stand at the north boat ramp, and connecting the trails that loop around the lake. We’ll hear a little bit more, including what it will take to act on any of the recommendations, and what the top priorities are at this point.
The email to send public comments about the master plan, until May 8, is: MendocinoMP@usace.army.mil
