New Law Teaches Beauty Professionals To Identify Signs Of Abuse And Trafficking

Shiela Feather speaks about AB326 at the Ukiah Womens March

Have you ever gone to a salon or barbershop for a haircut and it ended up being an impormpty therapy session? I often find myself telling my hairdresser really personal and private things and It turns out I'm not alone. Salons and barbershops are often seen as safe and confidential spaces, and lawmakers see this as an opportunity to reach victims of domestic violence who may not have the resources they need to get help.  A new state law will ensure beauty professionals are able to identify signs of abuse and trafficking and provide resources.

Sheila Feather is a hairdresser and cosmotologist who is advocating for Ukiah to become the first city in the state to be in compliance with the new law, she wants to see all beauty professionals certified before July.
