Jan 23, 2019 -- Lauren Sinnot is an artist whose most recent canvas is a block-long building in downtown Ukiah. At a talk this weekend, sponsored by the Mendocino County Art Association and the Community Foundation, Sinnott told the story of how she came to work on the historical mural taking shape on the north-facing wall of the city’s conference center. We’ll highlight the particular personal history that went into the panel depicting labor; how history happened while she was depicting it; and how Sinnott doesn’t shy away from the tragedies in our collective past.
This mural, “Ukiah, Past, Present and Future,” is the first piece to go through the city’s recently established public art policy. A committee of the Arts Council of Mendocino County selected her design, which the city planning commission and design review board approved unanimously.
