January 23, 2019 — There were several laugh lines and some booing at an eventful cannabis update during the January 22 Board of Supervisors meeting.
The cultivation ordinance has not been addressed by a full board consisting of five elected supervisors, and growers were eager to engage with a new dynamic.
An unprecedented alliance of growers’ advocacy groups and small farmers signed on to a 25-page document requesting that the board revisit some of the recommendations the ad hoc committee made last year.
There will be two new cannabis ad hoc committees on the board: one made up of Supervisors Ted Williams and Dan Gjerde to address economic development zoning issues; and the other, made up of Supervisors John McCowen and John Haschak, to take on the cultivation aspects.
We’ll hear who said what about the minimum tax, property investments, and the extent of the bureacratic literacy that’s necessary to apply for a cultivation permit.
