Citizen scientists at work in the Eel

Pat Higgins, director of the Eel River Recovery Project, stands in a dry streambed in the lower reaches of Baechtel Creek. Higgins expects water -- and fish -- to flow through this spot by Thanksgiving.

Oct 6, 2017 -- Volunteer monitors with the Eel River Recovery Project and Friends of Outlet Creek have teamed up to check out the health of Eel River  tributaries in and around Willits. KZYX took a field trip to several spots on Baechtel Creek, to look at stream gauges and a few fish.

Friends of Outlet Creek recently got a grant they and the Eel River Recovery Project hope to use to bring schoolkids into the creek for educational field trips. For more information about that, including how to get involved, Volunteer Coordinator Robin Leler can be reached at 459-0155. For more information about fish biology or the Eel River Recovery Project, Director Pat Higgins can be reached at 839-4987.
