Willits Center for the Arts Presents: An Evening with Caravaggio – Drama, Light, and Revolution in Paint
Willits, CA — The Willits Center for the Arts is proud to invite the public to a special presentation on one of the most electrifying figures in art history: Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio. This engaging evening, part of our ongoing Art Talk series, will take place on Friday, August 8 at 6:30 p.m. at 71 East Commercial Street in Willits.
Caravaggio shocked the art world of the early 17th century with his raw naturalism, theatrical lighting, and emotional intensity. Often called the father of Baroque painting, his revolutionary approach forever altered the course of Western art. Join us for a richly illustrated exploration of Caravaggio’s life and work, from his early commissions in Rome to his turbulent final years in exile. The presentation will include high-resolution images, contextual discussion, and stories that bring to life the man behind the myth.
This is not an academic lecture, but an accessible and visually powerful experience, perfect for those curious about art history as well as seasoned enthusiasts.
Presented by Gary Martin, M.A., this free event continues our mission to bring world-class cultural programming to the Mendocino County community. Seating is limited and early arrival is encouraged.
Refreshments will be available.
