Rally to Oppose Offshore Drilling

Rally to Oppose Offshore Drilling

Local activists will be demonstrating their love of the ocean with a rally on Saturday, Sept 26th on Big River Beach, Mendocino, from 12 to 2 p.m. A highlight will be a Hands Across the Sands visibility display of people standing with a long banner for No Offshore Oil Drilling. A group photo of the display will be distributed to decision makers in the state and federal government. All people wishing to show their support for ocean protection are encouraged to bring signs and be part of the photo shoot at 1 pm sharp.
The core message is that California rejects new offshore oil drilling and supports a transition to clean energy that protects our climate, communities, wildlife and coastal economies. With the recent announcements that the federal administration proposes to open up the California coast to oil and gas leasing; local opposition is building.
The rally will be from 12 – 2 pm on Saturday Sept. 26th at the west end of Big River Beach, Mendocino Bay, with parking at the east end in the Big River State Park. A handicap viewing site is at the east side of Big River Bridge and at the turnout parking northwest of the bridge. The event is sponsored by Sierra Club, Redwood Chapter and Mendocino Group, in coalition with Surfrider, the GrassRoots Institute, and other environmental groups.
