Join us for May’s First Friday celebrations with Karin Denson as featured artist.

In her new exhibition “Time, Space and Pixels,” Karin Denson presents a variety of collages as part of her ongoing work with glitches.

Denson says: “My artistic work combines a love for nature with curiosity about digital processes, including their often ‘wild’ or unexpected aleatoric outcomes. While glitches of this sort can be described as malfunctions or errors, I prefer to view them as aesthetic artifacts. In the back and forth between aleatory digital processes and artistic selection and control, they foreground the aesthetic dimensions of the fragile technical and ecological systems that we, along with other species, inhabit.”

In her collages Denson foregrounds the movement of animals through a chronophotographic process which reveals motion that usually remains invisible to the naked eye.

“Memories, the fleeting and irretrievable moments that are noticed sometimes only in hindsight, are what really interest me in my work with glitches. My nature excursions, observing and shooting photos and videos of wildlife, are meditative moments where I allow myself to be still, and to notice the smallest movements of the animals. And yet, in review of my materials I am always stunned by all the movements and traces my eye couldn’t see”, Denson states.
