Chess players and wanna-be chess players take note: The Mendocino County Chess League is a brand new organization. Beginning with the Ukiah Chess Club and Willits Chess Club, the League is aiming to include other chess clubs in the area. The League will provide venues for chess meetings and tournaments for longtime chess players, as well as encourage beginners. These first three (3) tournaments will be largely focusing on learning tournament behaviors, such as starting on time, remaining silent, recording moves on a scoresheet, and others. The other main focus will be to build a database of people interested not only in playing chess, but in promoting chess understanding and activities in the community. By the end of this first series of tourneys, we'll be ready to announce our next series of events, which will definitely include USCF (US Chess Federation) rated tournaments.
