MENDOCINO COUNTY PUBLIC BROADCASTING

About KZYX Radio

Now in its 30th year, listener supported KZYX (Mendocino County Public Broadcasting) broadcasts music, news, and public affairs programming across the length and breadth of Mendocino County and into Southern Humboldt, Western Lake, and Northern Sonoma counties. The station is the region’s primary NPR affiliate.

KZYX went on the air in 1989, thanks to a group of committed, persevering Mendocino County residents, and has maintained a steady base of enthusiastic members, and an even larger listenership, throughout its history. Indicative of its popular support is the remarkable roster of volunteer producers who have contributed their knowledge, creativity and passion to create three decades worth of unique, high quality, community-oriented programming.

We present significant NPR programming and other select syndicated features, but our locally produced shows make up the majority of our schedule. Since our earliest days, KZYX has been committed to serving the diverse Mendocino County community with local public affairs shows covering topics including agriculture, politics, ecology and environment, and social services. Our music programming spans classical, country/bluegrass, Americana, jazz, soul and funk. Current efforts include an initiative to more ably serve the Spanish speaking and Native communities of the county.

KZYX also maintain satellite station KZYZ 91.5 FM in Willits, and translator K201HR 88.1 FM in Fort Bragg. These facilities allow the station to broadcast across Mendocino County despite the region’s many mountain ranges. KZYX also streams live online via the station’s website, www.kxyz.org. The broadcast can also be heard via our KZYX iPhone app.
