Supporters of the Fort Bragg Senior Center wrote postcards and made calls to members of Congress to urge reauthorization of funding for the Older Americans Act.

Funding for the Older Americans Act was included in the resolution extending the federal budget until September. Amy Gotwals, chief of public policy and external affairs for USAging, said the level of funding is roughly the same as was allocated for Older Americans Act programs and services in fiscal year 2024.

USAging represents and supports the national network of Area Agencies on Aging, which distributes funding and offer services to older adults. Meals provided by the Fort Bragg Senior Center receive funding from the local Area Agency on Aging (AAA) of Lake and Mendocino Counties through the Older Americans Act. Local supporters of the senior center have been writing post cards and calling members of Congress to urge them to reauthorize the act.

Gotwals said the lack of authorization will not create a problem for service delivery as long as Congress continues to provide funds.
