March 30th Dave Liebman and John Stowell - Petit Fleur

Soprano sax master Sidney Bechet was born in New Orleans in 1897. He was the most influential stylist of the soprano saxophone in jazz, and was a teacher and mentor to Johnny Hodges. He was also a multi-instrumentalist and composer of beautifully lyrical blues tinged melodies. Dave Liebman with guitarist John Stowell has just release an album of Bechet’s music. Liebman chose to omit bass and drums, feeling a lighter palette would allow the music to shine. The album by Dave Liebman and John Stowell is called Petit Fleur, the track we’re hearing is Premier Bal.
