Karuk Tribal Members Discuss Practice of Prescribed Burns

Oct 24, 2018 — For another look at forest health, our friends at KMUD News recently spent the afternoon in Karuk tribal lands on the northeast edge of Humboldt County during an interagency collaboration on prescribed burns among CalFire, the US Forest Service, and tribal members. Lauren Schmitt reports on some of the stories and traditions of the Karuk practice of burning in the forest to benefit people, plants, and wildlife.
