La Onda Festival 2024
Kicking off summer right, La Onda latin music festival held in Napa California in June of 2024, impressed all with its array of amazingly talented musicians, delectable food, and vibrant scene, surrounded by fabulous mexican flare.
La Onda produced a lively and highly enjoyable atmosphere for a wide variety of fans. By hosting many renowned artists such as Mana as well as up and coming bands like Eslabon Armado, the festival flawlessly executed in bringing together all types of latin supporters from all ages and generations. KZYX & Z Mendocino Public Radio was honored to have been given the opportunity to represent our local Mendocino County Radio Station, particularly the Alma Latina Program hosted by Lorena Calvo Evans and Aline Jalfim every Saturday from 3pm -5pm. Aside from featuring a diverse lineup of artists, the festival also included a silent disco, club, spa and lucha libre. The inaugural debut of La Onda sparked excitement and pride amongst many. Not only was the festival extremely organized, but one could certainly recognize and appreciate the seamless transitions between performances. In addition to watching the musicians perform live, KZYX and Z representatives and festival attendees, Lorena and Valentina, were especially honored to interview artists such as Joss Favela, Wonderfox, Eslabon Armado and others in the Media Room. We were particularly interested in learning how these musicians felt to be a part of the start of such an event with an eclectic music scene in the heart of Northern California’s wine country. We, like many others, left with a profound satisfaction, having been at the center of the largest Latino festival of its kind. Feeling proud and with a deep sense of cultura and musica shared by all the attendees, you could just feel the vibe - la buena Onda- all around.
It was exciting to witness the crowd from various musical backgrounds come together to rejoice in the nostalgia evoked by the music and festival atmosphere. La Onda delivered and it took us back to the music scene of the 90’s with bands such as Mana, Cafe Tacuba & Los Angeles Azules while at the same time we were immersed in the largest latino festival of its kind which also gave us the newest sounds and trends in Latino music today.
Get ready, buy your tickets now, because La Onda is creating a deep legacy and it will bring together again huge numbers of fans and amazing performers, no doubt about it.
During the Alma Latina show I was able to promote La Onda by playing an array of music from musicians such as Silvana Estrada, Farruko, Mon Laferte, Cafe Tacuba, Siddharta, Yahritza y su Esencia and Fuerza Regida to name a few. Introducing some of the newer musicians to the audience and expanding with some of the more traditional sounds of La Arrolladora, Alejandro Fernandez, Los Angeles Azules and Maldita Vecindad. Alma Latina is an eclectic show such as La Onda festival and features most of the performers that the event brought together for the first edition of La Onda 2024.
I would like to acknowledge the positive energy at the festival along with the safety and sense or organization that the event displayed at all times. I would also like to extend my sincere gratitude for hosting such an event in Northern California and having Mendocino Public Radio be part of it all.
