The Mendocino Coast Botanical Gardens welcomes school groups, charter tours, and community organizations to enjoy the beauty of our 47-acre garden by the sea. Our Docents are active year-round, learning, sharing their knowledge, and providing group tours for people of all ages.

Our annual Docent Training is just around the corner, and we want you! We are looking for enthusiastic garden lovers who also love people and want to learn the art of leading tours for children and adults in the exploration and observation of one of our community’s greatest treasures, the Mendocino Coast Botanical Gardens. If you appreciate the green earth and want to help people of all ages (especially the little ones) develop a deeper connection with the natural world and a genuine excitement for gardens, then we hope you will consider joining the MCBG Docent Team. Help us share our fascination with plant life with the curious public!

​Did you know that all local school children get to experience the Gardens through free guided field trips? We welcome more than 1,000 students per year and our Docents lead them through the garden. We are thrilled to provide the local and visiting youth with a place to discover nature's wonder and be awestruck by towering rhododendrons, giant epiphytes (air plants), tiny insects, wandering wildlife, and many other gifts of our local ecosystem. As a docent, you can share your love of gardens with visiting school groups and use this magical garden to foster connections between children and nature.

The 33rd annual Art in the Gardens at Mendocino Coast Botanical Gardens will take place on Saturday, August 1, and Sunday, August 2. Join us in a celebration of creative expression, gorgeous gardens, and culinary delights. The event will include more than 50 artists, dramatic summertime blooms, as well as live entertainment and musical performances. Food, craft brews, wine, and wine tasting will be available for purchase on the Event Lawn. This is a fun event for all and a major fundraiser for our non-profit botanical garden!

This event is a major fundraiser for the Gardens and attracts as many as 2,500 guests each year. Artist booths will be located on our Event Lawn just a short walk from the Ocean Bluffs. Don’t miss this ideal opportunity to meet new clientele! To be considered in the jury process, please complete the 2026 Artist Application by Sunday, March 15.

There is a non-refundable application fee of $30 (no booth fee).

A jury will select 50 participating artists and notify all applicants in April.

All artists must commit to setting up and participating in both days of the event.

Participating artist will be required to turn in a 25% commission to the Gardens at the end of the event (5:00PM; 8/2/26).

The Event Lawn has WiFi and limited cellular service. Artists must be prepared to handle sales offline as a backup. The Gardens cannot handle transactions for artists.

The Sanhedrin Chapter of the California Native Plant Society is hosting a late winter wildflower walk at Low Gap Park in Ukiah from 10:00 to noon on Saturday, February 28th. We should find early bloomers emerging and some actually flowering. We’ll meet at the tables near the tennis courts at 10:00. Wear good hiking shoes and dress for the weather, although the hike will be cancelled if it’s raining.

This event is free, but our Low Gap wildflower brochures will be available for $1.00 (correct change, please).

A Special Rummage Sale Appeal
When you join us for Queenie’s Roadhouse Reunion on Sunday March 1, we invite you to bring one or two boxes of gently used items to support the Civic Club’s 2026 Rummage Sale (May 16–17). Donations may be dropped off near the Community Center entrance, where volunteers will be available to help.
Can’t bring items on Sunday March 1? Donations are welcome anytime through Thursday, May 14.

Clean, gently used, fully functional items—such as clothing, household and kitchen items, jewelry, tools, lamps, sporting goods, small furniture, toys and games, linens, and useful office supplies.
In short: anything in good condition that someone else would enjoy or find useful.

Items We’re Unable to Accept
To manage space, safety, and disposal costs, we can’t accept large, broken, unsafe, or hard-to-sell items. This
includes large appliances and furniture, mattresses, damaged or odorous items, non-working electronics, incomplete
power tools, construction materials or chemicals, and most books (children’s books are welcome).
Exception: brand-new items with clear resale value—please call first.
