Longest Night Service
Longest Night Service
PSA
On the Winter Solstice, it has become a tradition among some churches to hold a “Longest Night” service to acknowledge grief and loss. It is important to name that sometimes hope, peace, joy, and love are distant feelings when we have encountered great loss. The anticipation of renewed grief as Christmas Eve approaches can be difficult for many to bear. Gathering with understanding community helps us move through these feelings and funnel our heartbreak in ways that, while not alleviating it totally, gives space for a gentle remembering.
Ukiah United Methodist Church will be holding a Longest Night candle lighting service at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 21st. All are welcome to come and be with caring community during this holiday season. Christmas Eve service is on Tuesday the 24th at 7:00 p.m. at 270 N. Pine St., Ukiah.
