Mendocino County Sheriff Matthew Kendall welcomes new deputies Isaac Sanchez and Sierra Rogina.
The Donovan Room at the sheriff’s office was filled with well-wishers at 8:00 yesterday morning, as two new deputies were sworn into the department.
Sierra Rogina is a mechanic from Ukiah, and Isaac Sanchez is a former Anderson Valley volunteer firefighter with a degree in criminal justice. They are recent graduates from the police academy in Windsor.
The county sponsored both cadets through the academy and paid for their first set of uniforms, safety gear including gun belt, service pistol, and handcuffs, which cost about $44,000 each. After the new hires headed out for their first day of training and filling out paperwork, Sheriff Matt Kendall spoke about what’s next for them.
