Children Learn Native Arts and History from Local Experts

Oct 22, 2019 — The Pinoleville Pomo Nation got a three year extension on a grant to bring cultural ambassadors into some elementary schools in the Ukiah Unified School District to teach students about different aspects of local indigenous arts and history. Corine Pearce is a widely renowned professional basket weaver who visited classrooms last year and has since taken on the role of educational coordinator. Last week, she talked about what kinds of things the students have learned so far, and what her hopes are for this regionally specific curriculum.
