Supervisor Dan Gjerde
Mendocino County

Oct 19, 2018 — Fourth District Supervisor Dan Gjerde has long been a proponent of second, or additional dwelling units (ADUs) as a way to ease the crisis of affordable housing. In this interview, he talks about some new changes in state and county rules about third units. These units, known as junior ADUs, are small, converted bedrooms with efficiency kitchens. This makes them separate inhabitable living spaces within the structure of a home.

There will be a citizens workshop about this on October 25 at the Fort Bragg Town Hall at 5:30pm. A tax advisor, planning officials, a realtor, and a representative from West Company will be among the experts on hand to talk about how property owners can realize the tax and investment benefits of increasing housing stock.
