A mosaic in progress.

Sep 15, 2018 -- As the one year anniversary of last year's October firestorm approaches, local artists are planning commemorative events. They've made jewelry and mosaics out of salvaged items, taken photographs, and created images inspired by their experiences with fires. A storybook at the Ukiah library is in the works, as is a large mosaic that will be unveiled at the Redwood Valley Grange.

We'll hear from artists and organizers about how they've been affected by fire, and their efforts to heal and help their neighbors heal by creating arwork and performances.

Events include the October 5 First Friday reception at the Ukiah Art Center and Ukiah library; drumming and performances at the County Museum in Willits on October 6; and the unveiling of a mosaic at the Redwood Valley Grange on October 12. First Person Plural monologue performances by fire survivors are at the Ukiah Senior Center on September 19 and at the Redwood Valley Grange on October 20.
