High School Students Building In The Burn Zone

July 2, 2018 -- High school students from six schools in Mendocino and Lake Counties were breaking ground on a new home in Redwood Valley last week. They were part of a new program called Mendocino County Construction Corps, where they spent the semester learning basic construction skills in a variety of trades. Right after the school year was out, they embarked on a two-week 'boot camp,' building structures for fire survivors.

Last week, they teamed up with Hope City, a faith-based non-profit that builds basic homes in disaster zones at no cost to the property owner. I caught up with them during their morning break to ask about their thoughts on the program, and what they plan to do with their new skills.
