Ghost Ship Operator Arrested For Involuntary Manslaughter

Derick Almena, the 47 year-old man who operated the Ghost Ship warehouse in Oakland that burned down December 2, 2016 and claimed the lives of 36 individuals, was arrested in Lake County on June 5, 2017. He was taken into custody on a felony arrest warrant Monday morning. According to Lake County Jail booking records, Almena's address is listed as Upper Lake and Lake County News reports Almena was recently residing 

  in Lake county. Another Ghost Ship tenant was arrested Monday as well in connection with the fire, Max Harris, he was a Ghost Ship tenant who reportedly helped manage the dilapidated warehouse that was turned into a makeshift living space for many artists. Harris was arrested in Los Angeles. 

Both men are charged with 36 counts of of involuntary manslaughter. Almena appeared in Lake County Superior Court Monday afternoon before Judge Stephen Hedstrom. Almena's bail is set at more than one million dollars.
