The ACLU sued Mendocino County and District Attorney David Eyster last year over a failure to provide public documents it requested in 2021. The civil rights organization was seeking training documents concerning jury selection and materials about the implementation of the Racial Justice Act, which is intended “to eliminate racial bias from California’s criminal justice system” and “to ensure that race plays no role at all in seeking or obtaining convictions or in sentencing,” according to the lawsuit. The ACLU accused Eyster of disregarding his obligations under the public records act and thwarting the objectives of both the PRA and the Racial Justice Act.
