Tuesday January 16th at 7pm on the Ecology Hour. Scientists are trained to remove emotion from the subjects they are studying, but can their sadness and mourning for dead and dying organisms bring a new fire to environmental activism? Emotional disconnect, which is productive for ecological thinking, limits the work ecology can do in the world and constrains conservation politics, and perhaps ecologists lives. In the next Ecology hour we’ll explore these ideas put forward in a talk given by Cleo Woelfle-Erskine, professor of environmental equity and justice at the University of Washington.

Kim, by Rudyard Kipling, chapter 1.... this version is read by Adrien Praetzellis, downloaded from Librivox  Kim is a fabulous adventure story set in India during the former British Empire. It tells the story of a street-wise but (in typical Kipling fashion) highly moral Anglo-Indian boy who becomes enmeshed the “the Great Game” -– the competition between Britain and Russia for control over Asia.
