Goats, Horses And Reptiles Welcome

Aug 4, 2018

August 4, 2018 -- The Redwood Riders Arena in Redwood Valley is the evacuation center for large animals in areas under mandatory or advisory avacuation as a result of the most recent fires. On Thursday morning, I swung by to interview some goats, get my microphone chewed on by a horse, and learn about friendship between displaced goats and one giant reptile.

The River Fire had limited movement overnight, a burnout operation conducted on the Northern portion of the fire in the late afternoon improved containment. Today we will look at burning out and tying in containment lines. The Ranch Fire continues to grow in the north and south eastern directions, threatening communities in the fires path. The terrain on the Northern quarter of the Ranch Fire make it challenging to access the fire front directly. Many crews will be on the ground in the communities threatened by the fire, providing structure protection.

Mendocino County Sheriff's Office

A third wildland fire was reported east of Covelo in northeastern Mendocino County on Tuesday evening, prompting an immediate mandatory evacuation. CAL FIRE dubbed the the new blaze the Eel Fire.

July 30, 2018 --  "You have the entire nation in one community." That's what Paul Junker, of Michael Baker International, told an audience at an opt-out cannabis meeting in Ukiah. He'd been to Covelo and Laytonville in the North County, Mitchell Creek on the coast, and Ukiah in two days, meeting with people who had widely divergent ideas about how to customize cannabis cultivation rules in their communities.

Mendocino Complex Wildfires Impacting Air Quality

Jul 30, 2018
Air Now

Smoke and haze are impacting air quality and reducing visibility in Mendocino and Lake Counties. The dry, hot climate is making the situation much more precarious, and air quality has greatly deteriorated due to the presence of the smoke from the Mendocino Complex wildfires.

Currently, air monitors show particulate matter concentrations in the "Moderate" range for most of Mendocino County and "Very Unhealthy" to "Hazardous" for Lake County. This may continue until the fires are out and cooler weather returns.
