Several nonprofit groups in the Willits area have been working hard to improve the town in the face of the several economic challenges brought on by the bypass installed in late 2016, the heavy downtown construction that followed, and the rapidly changing cannabis market.
The group called Willits Economic Localization has spearheaded the project Paint The Town, where local artists are volunteering their time to paint items around town such as fire hydrants, garbage and recycling bins, dumpsters and concrete barricades. They’ve also begun putting up large photograph exhibits in windows of vacant storefronts downtown.
Another group, the Visit Willits Tourism Board, formed recently with the mission to stimulate local economic growth and promote Willits as a travel destination, has organized the upcoming Wild Willits Festival on October 20, 2018. The City is also hosting it’s first outdoor concert series, Falling Out of Summer, funded mainly by local business owners and other sponsors, taking place at Recreation Grove Thursdays from 5-7 PM through October 11, 2018. Tune in for for more!
