Aaron Martin, known as Cob, heads up a two-year project called Fire Adapted Communities in the Navarro River Watershed, sponsored by the Mendocino County Fire Safe Council using federal and state funds. The project must match a $93,000 grant with volunteer time spent on fire safe activities. A group of 21 cleared the grounds surrounding the KZYX Philo studios last month, contributing nearly $3,000 of the match with their time valued at $29 per hour.
