Her inter-disciplinary approach included interviews with Tlingit weavers, who say they were "the original Tree Huggers," because for thousands of years, they determined if the Yellow Cedars were mature enough to use their bark for weaving, by hugging them. If their fingers could touch, the "Tree People" were not ready to share without being harmed.
