Aug 22, 2018 — Small farmers and local consumers have a common concern. Most small farmers can’t cash in on agricultural subsidies, which means they have to sell their produce at prices poor people can’t afford.
An exception to that is the Market Match Program, which allows CalFresh recipients to use their benefits at all farmers markets in Mendocino County. I went by the farmers market in Ukiah to talk to market manager Scott Cratty and farmer Ben Wolff about efforts to increase the amount of match money customers can use.
