Climate Change Advisory Committee On The Way

A Mendocino County landscape.

March 20, 2019 — Environmentalists, artists, union reps, spiritual leaders, and a woman who said she represents the ordinary guy spoke in accord on one subject at Tuesday’s Board of Supervisors meeting.

The chambers were packed during Doug Nunn’s presentation for the Climate Reality Project, about the devastating effects of climate change. Immediately afterwards, Alicia Littletree Bales and Kirsten Johnson of the climate action startup group made a proposal for a climate change advisory committee that would inform and advise the Board of Supervisors about policies around disaster preparedness, carbon storage and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

We’ll hear from Littletree Bales and Johnson, who spoke with KZYX a few minutes after supervisors voted unanimously to take the next steps to form the committee. These include intitiating talks with the Mendocino County Resource Conservation District to staff the committee, exploring funding sources, and meeting again on April 2nd to hammer out the details.
