Award winning poet Gail Newman on Be More Now

Tune into KZYX&Z’s Be More Now program at 7pm on Thursday, June 18 when host Blake More will interview award winning poet Gail Newman. The evening will include a lively mix of poetry, discussion and inspiration, traversing topics such as how writing poetry helps with healing, trauma, memory and serve as inspiration for altruism, courage and resilience. The show will air on KZYX&Z 90.7FM Philo, 88.1FM Fort Bragg, and 91.5FM Willits, as well as stream live on the web www.kzyx.org

Blood Memory is the latest collection of poetry by Gail Newman.

Blood Memory Summary: Blood Memory traces the trajectory of a family from Poland to America during and after World War II. The themes of the poems encompass memory, immigration, assimilation and the legacy and impact of genocide on the second generation. Blood Memory is a eulogy to the dead and a tribute to the living.

Newman…doesn’t flinch from brutality, yet she has achieved something extraordinary. Blood Memory is a testament to humanity. Despite the darkness, the light of the living shines through.   Ellen Bass

Blood Memory’s …spare language (is) at times reminiscent of Charles Reznikoff’s chronicles of what befell the Jews of Europe in the Nazi era... “Come with your language and candlesticks” she says challenging that terrible history with implicit hope and confidence in her craft and imagination “Come as a testament,” she insists, seeking to transform the unbearable, “with the honey of praise and prayer in your mouth.”   Michael Heller
